One of the most important rooms in our home is the mudroom/laundry room.
It connects our garage to the house and is traversed by our family members every single day. It’s the landing zone for dirty shoes, sandy sandals, snowy boots, wet coats and hats, full backpacks and empty lunch bags.
We are also pet lovers, so puppy prints and kitty treats are found here, too. (I’m sure many of you can relate!)
Therefore, when we designed our home, we made sure to plan for the reality of our busy lifestyle. Here’s where we landed.
For this active family of four, storage is key to our survival.
The room was designed to store shoes, hats and gloves, laundry supplies, paper products and more.
A rattan rug on grey-tone tile floor captures dirt after days of gardening, family adventures and playing outside. The color hides it. A must with pets!
This sink is perfect. This is the laundry room where we wash out grass stains and hand wash delicates.
Kids wash away school germs as soon as they get home from school.
It’s perfect for washing pet bowls and keeping their dishes separate from ours.
And as a gardener, I don’t mind getting my hands dirty – or using delicious-smelling soaps to clean up afterward!
You can find this sink on Amazon – it’s Sterling brand and so lovely! Years later, it’s still sparkling clean and versatile.
I hope our space inspires your family!
We also hope you’ll adopt our mantra that “dirt don’t hurt”. Playing outside is vital to health – for kids and grown-ups!

Where did you get your sink? What brand are the cabinets? Thanks!
Sassy Bluejay
Hi Sonia,
The sink is Sterling brand. The cabinets are from our local cabinet making company, with shaker-style doors. We love them!
