The first is to Cascade Head Trail, whose trailhead is 10 minutes north of the town. We stayed at this DREAM VRBO located right along the hiking trail, so our commute was only minutes. The view is spectacular! The area is a protected wildlife research region, so please – no dogs and be sure to respect the area by staying on trail. You’ll travel from a low, riparian elevation to a broad and open mountain top with a million dollar view. It’s easy enough to hike with older kids ~ our 6 year old hiked it without issue. There’s lots of cool things to find along the trail! The second is God’s Thumb (through the Knoll) and is located minutes from Lincoln City’s center. Easily locate the hike here on Alltrails.com. Be sure to keep your dog on a leash for this hike; it’s more heavily-trafficked than Cascade Head so you’re sure to see local healthy folks and tourists alike on this breathtaking hike. Geocaching in Lincoln City Our family loves to geocache! If you’re not familiar with this quirky hobby, I have one question for you. Do you love treasure hunting? If so, then geocaching is for you and your family. Whenever we visit Lincoln City, Oregon or the coast, we find dozen caches which never cease to impress us. Geocaching takes you to the quaintest corners of any city and especially to landmarks like geological markers and pocket parks. Once there, you use the easy-to-use App to get within feet of a hidden container which often contains only a log (which you sign). Geocaching.com is Ground Zero of the geocaching hobby. Start there – create a free account, and use that smart phone in your pocket to go on an adventure today. Visit Geocaching.com today, do a quick search of your home address, and you’ll be surprised that there are geocaches within 10 minutes of nearly everyone! WHERE TO STAY IN LINCOLN CITY, OREGON On our recent visit to Lincoln City, Oregon, we found family friendly geocaches located all over the city. One of our favorite finds was right on the beach, where we met Joe the sea lion. You can read his story here. The best time to get this geocache is on a rainy day like we did! Otherwise you might encounter too many muggles to snag this find. TFTC! Where to Eat in Lincoln City, Oregon There are LOTS of kid friendly and family friendly places to eat in Lincoln City. If you’re looking for a great ADULT trip, check out this Brewery Tour of the Oregon Coast! One of our favorite family and kid friendly restaurants in Lincoln City is The Wildflower Grill. There is is something for everyone! My husband loves seafood, and their crab cake benedict can’t be beat. Kids go crazy for their French Toast. Wildflower Grill is a classic coastal restaurant that we love as a family. On a cold, misty morning while visiting Lincoln City, Oregon, their coffee is hot, service is kind and fast, and food is sensational. Check out their menu here. The Beaches of Lincoln City, Oregon There’s no shortage of beach access is this amazing oceanside town. Whether you visit in the heat of summer or in the snuggly winter months, you’re sure to find a smaller crowd than you will in towns like Seaside (which draws the Portland crowd) or Newport (which is a major destination for Eugene, Corvallis, and Salem). Low Tide on a Sunny November Day in Lincoln City, Oregon Our favorite beach access in Lincoln City, Oregon is at this less-well-known location: We prefer this location over the super-windy, tourist packed main parking lot in the heart of the city. There are bathrooms here with little foot sprayers to take off the sand from walks on the beach. We pack our favorite wagon with beach necessities and enjoy a full day from this location. Visit Lincoln City, Oregon with Kids! Our family loves to visit Lincoln City, Oregon. If you decide to make this incredible trip, here’s how to get there. Getting There From I-5: No matter what large city you’re coming from Oregon, taking I-5 to Salem is a fast route to Lincoln City, Oregon. At Salem, make your way to Highway 22 which will take you close to Lincoln City. Merge onto Highway 18 which will bring you right to the heart of this town, located on Highway 101. From Central Oregon: Take Highway 20 though Sisters, then hop on Highway 22 at the Santiam Junction. Travel through Salem on 22. Follow the signs outside of Lincoln City ~ you’ll merge on to Highway 18 just a few miles outside of town. From Highway 101: You can always travel the incredible Oregon Coast along Highway 101 to this sensational family friendly town. Be sure to check out this Brewery Tour of the Oregon Coast and make a longer trip out of it!

The post Kid and Family Activities in Lincoln City, Oregon appeared first on Sassy Bluejay.

<post-id xmlns="com-wordpress:feed-additions:1">21928</post-id>

Lincoln City, Oregon – A Family and Kid Friendly Vacation Spot

Brian

Raising Littles

Travel Pacific Northwest

Visiting Lincoln City, Oregon Lincoln City, Oregon is a family-friendly, must-see destination along Oregon’s pristine Pacific coast. Whether you’re looking for a secluded, romantic getaway or a chance to busy yourself in the perfect small town, Lincoln City, Oregon is the place. As Oregon natives who’ve visited the entire coastal range, we know a thing or two about this perfect destination. Our family travels together a lot – grandparents, little children, and certainly a dog or two. Lincoln city is the perfect destination for family travel or a romantic retreat. Here are the top places to stay, what to see and do, and where to eat on your visit. Spend a day or a week – you’ll love every minute of visiting Lincoln City, Oregon. Beautiful view of Salmon River at the Pacific Ocean from the Cascade Head Trail, Lincoln City, Oregon. Where to Stay in Lincoln City, Oregon VRBO Our family‘s favorite way to visit Lincoln city Oregon is by staying in a VRBO (vacation rental by owner). Hands-down, this gives you the best access to great places to stay with the most amount of privacy. Whether you’re looking for a cute bungalow right on the beach or a secluded mountain retreat like our recent stay, VRBO is the way to go. This year we found a quaint mountain retreat tucked up in the Cascade Head Ranch of Otis, Oregon. Located a 10 minute drive from the heart of Lincoln City, this mid-century modern gem was the perfect getaway at Thanksgiving. There were nearly 3000 newly-remodeled square feet of paradise for our huge family to gather. Located halfway up the hiking trail to Cascade Head (an easy hike with a stellar view!), we were visited by a large herd of elk every day. Deer and their fawns ate the grass 15 feet from our dining room window every morning. And off in the distance, we could hear the crashing waves of the Pacific Ocean along the private and secluded beach located at the mouth of the Salmon River. Our view of elk – every day! Just feet from the patio The drive up to our house alone was magical. It looked like a scene from the Shire in the Hobbit ~ bendy, moss-covered trees hung over the windy paved road; rolling tall grass-covered hills. The sun shone through the mountain elk trails and the ocean peekaboo was exciting. We filled our time by snuggling up on the amazing couch and watching holiday movies, doing puzzles, riding our bikes on the paved driveway, and playing one of the many games in the house. Our host, Raymond, pulled out all the stops to make this a family friendly getaway. We kept a toasty fire burning in the fireplace and fell in love with the outdoor hot tub. The beds were cozy, the laughs were endless – and that VIEW! In fact, we love the place so much that we’re already dreaming of our next trip to Cascade Head Ranch. I highly recommend this mountain-ocean hideaway for any family! Our view and the rental home in Cascade Head Ranch You can’t beat that view of the Pacific Ocean and Oregon’s idealic coast. It’s easy to hear the crashing waves from the quiet, secluded patio. This isn’t the first time we’ve stayed at a rental in Lincoln City, Oregon. On a previous enjoyable visit, we stayed at an ocean-front condo located right on the beach. We literally left our front door and walked right onto the beach. So if a huge house isn’t exactly what you’re looking for, you’ll find the perfect property at VRBO, just like we always do. Although rates are slightly higher in the summer during the peak tourist season, we love to visit Lincoln city in the fall, winter, and spring as well. The rainier weather and cooler temperatures make for great cuddle sessions and opportunities for rest and relaxation. If you’re planning to visit Oregon, check out this road trip-format list that will take you past the most incredible locations – and the top breweries in our great state. These 12 Oregon Coast Breweries are must-stop destinations on your visit. Fly directly into Portland, drive a few short miles and add these Oregon Coast breweries as pitstops for your memorable trip. Ranging from off-the-beaten-path to top tourist destinations, there’s something on this Oregon Coast breweries list for everyone. PLUS! This list contains more than just brew stops – it’s designed to bring you to beautiful destinations (like lighthouses!) and one-of-a-kind sights to make your trip memorable. Taking the family? Be sure to brush up on these tips to make any family road trip awesome! Please, please, please ~ never drink and drive. These Oregon Coast roads are windy, narrow, and heavily traveled. Thank you for keeping each other safe. Best Oregon Travel Books ~ Grab Before You Go Getting There From Portland Highway 26 is your fastest route to the gorgeous Oregon Coast; you’ll be there in just over an hour with minimal traffic from Portland during the Fall, Winter, and Spring. Summer can be a little busier with tourism traffic from the Portland Metro area. It’s so worth it though! When you hit the scenic Highway 101 (which runs the entire wooden and mountainous length of the Oregon Coast and beyond), hang a right and head up north to Astoria ~ our first stop on the Oregon Coast breweries tour and one of Oregon’s popular ocean destinations. Famous as the location where the 80’s cult classic Goonies was filmed, Astoria will not disappoint you! It’s the quintessential Oregon Coast spot for a great meal and cold beverage. Stop #1: Fort George Brewery + Public House Address: 1483 Duane St, Astoria, OR 97103 Phone Number: (503) 325-7468 Website: fortgeorgebrewery.com Best Bet: There’s no better place to take in the sights of the Columbia River ~ which is entirely responsible for Astoria’s popularity in the early days of our great state. Originally a booming fur trading site, Astoria’s history and vistas will not disappoint. Try their season IPAs and Cavatica Stout and see why this place is so popular. Pair it with one of their wood-fired pizzas and take in the gorgeous views from their taproom. From Astoria, continue your Oregon Coast breweries tour by heading south on Highway 101 toward the popular destination of Seaside. Seaside is arguably the state’s most visited coastal city, thanks to its proximity to the Portland Metro area and idyllic beaches. Here’s where our Oregon Coast breweries tour continues and certainly without disappointment. Stop #2: Seaside Brewing Company Address: 851 Broadway St, Seaside, OR 97138 Phone Number: (503) 717-5451 Website: seasidebrewery.com Best Bet: On any given night, this brewery is abuzz with guests enjoying their deliciously fresh pub fare and cold, fresh brews off the tap. Their SHŌGA ACE GINGER BLONDE is like none other; check out their 14 brews drink menu here to see what you’ve got in store. You’ll see why this place is so popular year-round. As you continue south along Highway 101, you’ll visit some of Oregon’s most beautiful locations. Although this is a list of the 10 best Oregon Coast breweries, you won’t want to miss the chance to visit Manzanita ~ one of the best kept secrets in Oregon. Stop by the Winery at Manzanita and see why Oregon wines are comparably as wonderful as those from Napa. Better yet, stay at the Inn at Manzanita for a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The place is so popular it needs to be booked well in advance. As you head south along Highway 101, Rockaway Beach’s huge sandstone structures off the coast are totally worth stopping for to photograph. Don’t miss the chance to take in the scenes and pristine beaches on this stretch of highway. Highway 101 curves inland at Barview, taking you through the adorable town of Garibaldi and toward the larger city of Tillamook. No Oregon Coast breweries tour would be complete with a quick tour of the Tillamook Creamery, followed by a stop at the De Garde Brewery and Cape Meares Lighthouse. Touted as the shortest lighthouse in Oregon, it’s a quick walk to the location and well worth it for the picturesque scene. Stop #3: Public Coast Brewing Company Address: 264 Third Street, Cannon Beach, OR 97110 Phone Number: (503) 436-0285 Website: publiccoastbrewing.com Best Bet: You can’t go wrong with either the food or the drinks at Public Coast. Located smack dab in the heart of quaint Cannon Beach, this place is a sure bet and for good reason. It’s family friendly, too. They have the best root beer on tap for the kids, and serve locally-sourced food including fish and meat from nearby sellers. Their Coconut Brown Ale is one of a kind and won’t disappoint. Check out their incredible brew menu here. Stop #4: De Garde Brewing Address: 114 Ivy Avenue, Tillamook, OR 97141 Phone Number: (503) 815-1635 Website: degardebrewing.com Best Bet: The Filbert is a must-have brew at this location. Oregon is one of the top producers of hazelnuts (aka Filberts) and this cold bev doesn’t disappoint. It’s aged in oak barrels for 2 years with hazelnuts. You’re sure to order a few bottles to take home, it’s that good. Located a short drive from your next stop at Cape Meares Lighthouse, this is the perfect place to stop and take in the purest Oregon Coast scenery. As you head to my favorite stretch of Oregon’s Coast (near Sandlake), you’re starting to enter sand dune country. Many dune enthusiasts including dune buggy and dirt bike riders visit this stretch of the Oregon Coast ~ and for good reason. It’s one of the hottest destinations for camping, adventure, and dune riding. Fortunately, it’s also a best kept secret. Campgrounds fill up in the height of the summer, but all other times of year – there’s a good chance you’ll find a quiet campsite or picnic table to take in the gorgeous views. Further south, Cape Kiwanda is arguably one of the best locations on your Oregon Coast Breweries tour. That’s because it’s located on the Central Coast of Oregon. Many tourists go straight to Seaside, or (on the south coast) to Newport and rarely venture this far along the Coast. You’re sure to get a great seat at the brewery, whichever you choose to visit. Stop #5: Pelican Brewing at Cape Kiwanda Address: 33180 Cape Kiwanda Dr. Pacific City, OR 97135 Phone Number: (503) 965-7007 Website: pelicanbrewing.com Best Bet: Pelican Brewing is a chain of brewpubs located up and down the Oregon Coast. Full disclosure ~ the location at Cape Kiwanda (Pacific City, proper) is spectacular ~ one of a kind, and certainly will be a memorable stop on your Oregon Coast breweries tour. Cape Kiwanda is home to a huge haystack rock that is picturesque and breathtaking. It’s also home to a massive (I mean MASSIVE) sand dune that brave adventurers spend hours playing on! You can rent boards upon which to fly down the towering sand dune, or simply watch the brave people from the comfort of a patio seat at Pelican. Pick the right weekend to visit and you can witness Dory Days or a surf contest from the comfort of their oceanfront patio. You can’t go wrong with their better-than-pub food or beer menu. Stop #6: McMenamins Lighthouse Brewpub Address: 4157 NE Hwy 101, Lincoln City, OR 97367 Phone Number:(541) 994-7238 Website: mcmenamins.com/lighthouse-brewpub Best Bet: Yes, it’s another chain brewery on the list. But what would a trip to Oregon be without a stop at an infamous McMenamin’s? Art – Creativity – Unique. These are three words that come to mind when I visit any of their location. Their brews are incredible, too, especially if you like unique ciders (like their Blackberry Cider – VERY Oregon!) or IPAs like the Counselor Double. If this is your first time visiting Oregon, then definitely visit McMenamins (they have several unique locations across our great state). I’m not exaggerating when I say there is no other place like McMenamins. Known for purchasing and refurbishing historical sites in Oregon and making them true tourist destinations, this Lincoln City stop is no different. McMenamins is not a place you pop in and out of; plan to be here for a few hours as you’re lulled into relaxation by the unique ambiance and otherworldly artistic decor. The food is awesome, too! Stop #7: Beachcrest Brewing Company Address: 7755 U.S. 101, Suite E5 In the Salishan Marketplace, Gleneden Beach, OR 97388 Phone Number: (541) 234-4013 Website: beachcrestbrewing.com Best Bet: This modern brewery brings a seriously beachy flare to the Central Coast of Oregon. Their taproom boasts bright sunlight and good feelings, not to mention seriously good beer. They have an outdoor patio that celebrates the beauty of Oregon’s Central Coast. Family owned, this place not only touts incredible beers ~ it’s a hub for awesome music and great vibes. The owners are musicians-turned-brewers, and you can feel that spirit throughout this place. Check out their unique story here, and their world-class brew menu here. Stop #8: The Horn Public House and Brewery Address: 110 SE N Coast Hwy, Depoe Bay, OR 97341 Phone Number: (541) 764-6886 Website: thehorn.pub Best Bet: If you’re not paying close attention, the sweet little town of Depoe Bay will come and go without notice. However, visiting the Horn Public House and Brewery should definitely be a stop on your Oregon Coast breweries tour. Trust me ~ you’ll thank me later! That’s because, even though this list is really about the Oregon Coast breweries, I would be foolish not to include the best coast food that Oregon has to offer. That’s where The Horn comes in. Not only can you get your hands on a state-of-the-art pint; their Fried Oyster Sandwich (from right here in the Yaquina Bay) and fish and chips is what brings me back to this place every time. Check out their food menu here. Oh, and did I mention the beer? They carry Depoe Bay Brewing’s beers ~ checkout the great menu here. Stop #9: Rogue Ales and Brewing Address: 748 SW Bay Blvd. Newport, OR 97365 Phone Number: (541) 265-3188 Website: rogue.com Best Bet: Okay, okay. Oregonians might say this is one of the more touristy stop on this list, and they may be right…but for good reason! The town of Newport is a must-stop for anyone visiting the Oregon Coast. Home to the Yaquina Lighthouse and that iconic Arch Bridge over the Yaquina Bay, do not miss this place! Hands down, there’s no brewing company more famous (or pumping out the same volume of brews) on the Oregon Coast than Rogue Brewing. Visit their rustic, been-there-for-ages public house down on the Newport Bayfront. Stroll the Bayfront and take in the fun shops and attractions, get a closeup view of the nearly-native seals, and see where Rogue came to fame. You can’t go wrong with their Dead Guy Ale or their Hazelnut Brown Nectar ~ a true celebration of Oregon’s hazelnuts. Rogue Brewing has won so many brewing awards, it’s unreal. Stop by and see why ~ you won’t be disappointed! Stop #10: Homegrown Public House Address: 294 Laurel St, Florence, OR 97439 Phone Number: (541) 997-4886 Website: homegrownpublichouse.com Best Bet: A few scenic hours from Newport and you’re in Florence ~ another must-see visit when touring the Oregon Coast breweries. Florence is home to huge sand dunes, outdoor recreation areas, and sand lakes. Make Honeyman State Park a must-stop on your visit to Florence. Homegrown Public House is a simple place with big dreams and the means to get there. They started their brewing operation in 2020 and aim to sweep the Florence beer making scene. Check out their delicious...

The post Oregon Coast Breweries ~ 12 Destinations You Don’t Want to Miss appeared first on Sassy Bluejay.

<post-id xmlns="com-wordpress:feed-additions:1">5482</post-id>

Swan Island Dahlias Festival: A Must See in Oregon

Sassy Bluejay

Garden & Birds

Travel Pacific Northwest

adventure

annual

dahlia

family

festival

flower

flowers

fun

garden

Gardening

Greenhouse

learning

music

Oregon

teaching

travel

tubers

The US's largest Dahlia Festival is at Swan Island Dahlias in Canby, Oregon.
